Translator

Overview

Translator finds the written text inside a Revit model and replaces it with a translation, in place, so the drawings you issue read in the language your client reads.

It looks in four places: text notes in views, text notes in legends, the column headings visible on schedules, and named parameters on mechanical and electrical elements - ducts, pipes and insulation, plumbing fixtures and sprinklers, cable tray and conduit, electrical and lighting fixtures, and fire alarm, data, security and telephone devices. Notes, legends and schedule headings are read whatever the discipline. Parameters are the part that stops at mechanical and electrical: walls, doors, floors and rooms carry no parameter text here.

The parameter side works from a fixed list of parameter names, and anything not on it is passed over without comment.Both that list and the element types behind it sit in an editable settings file, so a firm can add its own parameter names without waiting for a new release.

Work happens in two stages. Every piece of text found is first checked against the translation store kept on your machine, and only the ones it has not seen before go out. Those are sent to OpenAI in small batches and come back into the review table. Each pair you confirm is written to the store in both directions, so the same phrase is never sent - or paid for - twice.

Worth saying plainly: the text collected from your model leaves the machine and goes to OpenAI. The store, the settings and any spreadsheet you export stay local, and a run over text that is already in the store needs no connection at all. Translation goes through our own account with the service, so there is nothing for you to sign up for - and nothing to point at an account of your own, if your office would rather the traffic went through its own contract.

Target languages come from the full list Windows knows rather than a short menu. Text with no letters in it - codes, pure numbers - is left alone.

Only the rows you have marked confirmed are written back, and they land in one pass: either the whole confirmed set is written or none of it is, so a run that fails part way leaves the model exactly as it was. A finished run comes back with a single Revit undo. The letter case of each original note is reapplied, so an all-caps title stays all-caps.

Scope is the whole project. There is no active-view or level filter - you narrow by kind of text and by discipline, not by where you are looking. Linked models are neither read nor written; only the model you have open. The interface is English, and the translation store is per user on that machine.
