Overview
1. The Core Function The Split Layers plugin simplifies complex Revit models. It takes compound walls and floors and breaks them apart. It turns one thick element into multiple, separate elements.
2. Grouping the Layers First, you select a wall or floor type. The plugin reads this element and shows you all its internal layers. You can then create custom groups. You move specific materials (like brick or concrete) into these groups. The plugin will generate a brand new, physical element for each group you create.
3. Defining the Scope Before you run the split, the plugin asks you where to apply the changes. You must select a scope. You have three options for finding the elements:
In View: The plugin only splits elements visible in your current active view.
In Level: The plugin splits all matching elements on a specific floor level.
In Project: The plugin finds and splits every matching element in the entire Revit project.
4. Handling Doors and Windows (Wall Specific) Walls usually have hosted elements, like doors or windows. Which new layer group should hold the door? You choose the correct structural layer to host the door. This ensures your model stays perfectly accurate and prevents any geometry errors when the original wall is replaced.
