Linked Copier

Copy from a linked model

Pick a link, filter by level or category, tick what you need, and copy it into your model.

Land on the right level

Match the link's levels to yours and copied elements arrive at the height you chose.

Review before you copy

Elements already in your model are flagged, and backing out leaves it exactly as it was.

Overview

Linked Copier brings elements out of a linked Revit model and into the model you are working in - for when the geometry you need already exists in someone else's file and you need a real copy of it in yours.

You work with one loaded link at a time. The plugin lists everything in it, with no category restriction of any kind: whatever the link contains is what you can copy. Narrow the list by level, by category, or by typing part of a name, then tick what you want. There is no whole-project or all-links button; the selection is always yours to make.

Four ways to decide where the copies land. Keep the link's own coordinates. Match origin to origin. Pick a point in your model and drop the centre of the selection on it. Or align by level: match each of the link's levels to one of yours, and every element is raised or lowered by the height difference between the two, so a copied slab arrives on the level you meant. Plan position is untouched in that mode - only height moves. Worksets can be matched across the same way, when your model is workshared.

An element sitting in the same space in your model under the same name counts as already present, and is either skipped quietly or listed for you to review. The match is on position and name, so a copy someone has since renamed will not be recognised as one.

When Revit refuses part of a selection, the run does not collapse. The plugin finds out which elements Revit will accept by trying them one at a time and undoing each attempt, then copies the accepted ones together in one pass so their types and relationships stay intact. Everything it could not copy is listed with its ID, name, category and Revit's own reason. That check is thorough rather than quick: a large selection with many problem elements takes a while.

Hosted families are handled deliberately. If you copy a wall, the openings in it do not travel with it; doors, windows and similar instances whose host is outside your selection are either placed for you or reported as skipped with the reason, depending on one setting. Where a type name already exists in your model, the existing type is reused rather than a numbered duplicate created.

The whole copy is a single step. If something goes wrong, or you decline after reading the list of what would be skipped, nothing is written at all; a completed copy comes back out with one undo.

It reads from the link and writes only to your model - a linked file is never modified. Everything runs on your own machine, with no internet connection, and your choices are remembered for next time. The interface is English.
